WHAT’S FOR SUPPER?

Soft Rolls

Ingredients:

  • 4 -5 cups CAKE flour
  • 2 tablespoons instant yeast
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups warm milk (warm not hot)
  • 5 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 egg, room temperature

Method:

  1. Combine 3 cups of flour, yeast, sugar, salt in a bowl (dry ingredients)
  2. In a separate bowl mix the warm milk, butter, and egg
  3. Make a well with your hand and add the wet ingredients into the flour mixture and combine well
  4. Add 1/2 cup flour and combine until incorporated.
  5. And another 1/2 cup flour and repeat, knead until a ball of dough is formed.
  6. The dough should be slightly sticky and soft and pulling away from the edge of the bowl.
  7. Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl and cover with a towel or plastic wrap. Let rise for 30 minutes at room temperature.
  8. Remove the towel or plastic wrap and deflate the dough by punching down lightly.
  9. Pinch off pieces of the dough and form equal rolls. You can weigh them to keep the rolls close to the same size.
  10. Transfer the rolls to a lightly greased quarter baking dish. Cover with a towel or plastic wrap and let rise for an additional 30 minutes at room temperature.
  11. Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Bake the rolls for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. If the rolls are getting too brown, just tent the rolls with foil.
  12. Remove rolls and brush hot rolls with the melted butter. Serve immediately or store cooled rolls in a plastic bag for 3-5 days.
